Announcement against the article related to drifted coal at Jepara Regency

Jepara, 24th December 2021 – PT. Bhumi Jati Power (hereinafter “BJP”) as the project company of Tanjung Jati B Unit 5 & 6 Project (hereinafter the “Project”) hereby share the announcement against the article related to drifted coal at Jepara Regency.

There was an article which describes some coal were drifted ashore along the Sekembu Beach in Jepara Regency from the barge sunken by storm near Panjang Island.

We would like to express that drifted coal found along the Sekembu Beach and sunken barge transporting coal are not related to the Project. Taking this opportunity, we would like to explain our measures taken to prevent and mitigate risk of coal contamination to the sea as follows;

  • Coal transportation by Kamsarmax vessel

We use Kamsermax vessel for coal transportation from Kalimantan to our jetty to enhance efficiency of transportation. It is fully enclosed by hatch and the coal cargo will not get wet or dropped off to the sea during the voyage even it encounters high wave and stormy sea condition in monsoon season.

  • Coal unloading by continuous bucket type ship unloader (hereinafter “CSU”)

We use the CSU for coal unloading at our jetty, which can eliminate risk of coal spillage to the sea during unloading process as the coal cargo delivered from the hatch of vessel to the jetty is through closed elevating system.

  • Frequent cleaning and maintenance of coal handling system and jetty

We conduct cleaning of coal handling system and jetty daily and also conduct preventive and corrective maintenance regularly to prevent coal spillage to the sea.

PT Bhumi Jepara Service (hereinafter “BJS”), as the operation and maintenance company of the Project, has started coal unloading activity for commissioning of the Project, and now under training for the operation of CSU towards the commercial operation phase of the Project. BJP and BJS are preparing for the stable plant operation and continue to comply with all relevant environmental regulations, as well as implementation of CSR program in our awareness to be involved in developing environmental related matter, to become one of the most efficient coal fired power plants in Indonesia.
