Beyond a Clean-Up: BJP/BJS Turn Collective Action into a Commitment to Coastal Sustainability
Jepara, September 25, 2026 – In commemoration of World Clean-Up Day 2026, PT Bhumi Jati Power (BJP) held a Coastal Clean-Up activity on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Ombak Mati Beach, Bondo Village, Bangsri Sub-district, Jepara Regency. This event continues the company's annual commitment to environmental conservation, following previous coastal clean-up activities at Ombak Mati Beach (2022), Prawean Beach (2023), Tanggultlare Beach (2024), and Pailus Beach (2025).
World Clean-Up Day is a global movement carried out simultaneously in countries around the world, uniting people from different backgrounds to take action against the global waste problem, including marine debris. This year's global theme, “Strive for Five,” calls on participants to be part of the 5% who inspire and move the other 95%, reflecting the belief that when a critical mass commits, entire communities can create meaningful change.
The event was attended by more than 100 participants from various elements, including BJP/BJS management, employees and contractors, local government representatives including the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Jepara, Bangsri Sub-district Government, Bondo Village Government, and members of
the local community, including Nusa Bersih, Kartini Indonesia Foundation, and Jaya Samudra Group comprising local seaweed cultivators as well as members of its seaweed processing and marketing group.
Mr. Hadi Suwasono, as the Project Company’s Representative of BJP and as the Station Manager of BJS, explained that this year's collaboration with Jaya Samudra Group reflects the company's long-term commitment to the coastal community of Bondo Village. "I hope what we are doing truly has a positive impact on the environment around the power plant," said Hadi. He also urged participants to see the day as more than a one-off cleanup event. "Let us not only be volunteers who pick up litter today. Let us become part of the 5% who drive change around us, starting from our families, our neighbors, our organizations, and our workplaces.”
Mr. Sridana Paminto SE, MM, as the Head of the Environmental Agency of Jepara Regency, conveyed appreciation for BJP/BJS's consistency in holding this environmental event every year since 2022. “As we know, our waste disposal sites (TPS) in Jepara are almost full. That is why the Regent has set a target to handle waste at its source, so that the volume can be reduced by 50%,". He added that the activity is expected to have a positive impact. "We hope this activity will encourage others to take an active part and care about waste," he said.
Mr. Ichiro Usui, the BJS General Manager of Planning and Coordination, shared his thought that the responsibility to protect our environment is a shared responsibility. “Each action may seem small by itself. However, when many people make a few extra efforts, the result can be significant" he said.
As part of its support for the coastal community, BJP also handed over safety equipment to the Jaya Samudra Group, including 10 life jackets, 2 ring buoys, and 2 megaphones. The equipment is intended to raise awareness and improve emergency preparedness in the field of coastal tourism.
In addition to the coastal clean-up, the event featured an introduction to the Seaweed Cultivation Program, presented by Jaya Samudra Group, the local farmer group supported through the BJP community empowerment program through the Community Economic Pillar.
At the end of the activity, the total amount of trash collected during the Coastal Clean-Up was 142 kg, reflecting the collective effort of all participants throughout the afternoon.
Through this year's Coastal Clean-Up, BJP/BJS reaffirms its commitment to the Environmental Conservation Pillar, hoping that today's collective action will not end as a ceremonial event, but grow into an everyday culture of environmental awareness within the community.
