BJP Spread 50.000 Seeds of Milkfish as the Economic Increasement Commitment for Fisherman during the Monsoon Period

Jepara, 27th March 2024 – PT Bhumi Jati Power (hereinafter “BJP”) has successfully conducted the ceremonial of 50.000 Milkfish seeds spreading in Bandungharjo Village, Donorojo sub-District on 27th March 2024. The Milkfish Cultivation Program (“Program”) is one of BJP’s commitments to the Community Economic pillar to support the local fisherman community in having a better economy for their livelihood, especially during the monsoon period.

Apart from the BJP’s team, the ceremonial activity was attended by the Department of the Brackish Aquaculture and Fisheries Centre (Balai Besar Perikanan dan Budidaya Air Payau or “BBPBAP”) Jepara as the consultant and The Fisherman Forum Group (Forum Nelayan) as the “Beneficiaries”. In the ceremony, Mr. Ari Wibawa as the CSR Manager of BJP conveyed that the Milkfish Cultivation Program has high economic potential and promising business prospects in the Jepara Regency area. He believed that this Program could provide economic escalation leverage or additional income for Beneficiaries in Bandungharjo.

Prior spread of 50,000 milkfish seeds, a series of preparations had been made by the BBPBAP and Beneficiaries, such as coordination with stakeholders, permit and license preparation, pond preparation, mobilization material, and training.

The Program is implemented using the semi-intensive method in the 2,5 hectares of pond. To carry out this method, BJP installed 4 waterwheels to support the stable oxygen supply level in the pond. Ensuring the oxygen level in stable condition may contribute to the productivity increment around 2 – 3 times compared with the traditional method.

The cultivation will take around 3-4 months before entering the harvesting period, which means that the pond could effectively cultivate the milkfish up to 4 times a year. In BBPBAP’s experience, the estimate for the total of harvested milkfish is around 6,4 tons for each harvesting activity. According to the milkfish market condition, the market demand for the milkfish is still widely open and has high demand from Pati, Rembang, and Semarang. Then, we expect that the harvested milkfish could improve the prosperity of the Beneficiaries through this Program.

Mr. Ari Wibawa also mentioned that he believed that BBPBAP engagement could provide better innovation and technology to support the Beneficiaries in Program implementation. For the last, He also appreciated the Beneficiaries for their enthusiasm and effort towards this Program.

BJP commits to implementing the sustainable CSR Program which focuses on the local community through 5 Pillars of the CSR Program: Environment Conservation, Education and Training, Community Economic Development, Community Health and Nutrition, and Support for Social, Culture, and Religious.
